The Transfer of Curves

This is based on a scientific principle called the Transfer of Curves, which is kind of fun, especially for a scientific principle.

Start by laying a piece of string on a table and announcing that you will tie a knot by touching only the ends of the string and without letting go of it.

Now cross your arms in front of you. (1)

With your arms still crossed, pick up an end of the string in each hand and hold it as you uncross your arms. (2)

You will make an instant knot as the curves transfer from your arms to the string. (3)
